Description: The Crescent Ranger District is proposing vegetation management, including commercial timber harvest and fuels reduction on approximately 14,800 acres within the Upper Little Deschutes Watershed. The watershed totals about 68,000 acres and includes the upper reaches of the Little Deschutes River. The proposal addresses forest health and hazardous fuels concerns on National Forest System lands of the Deschutes National Forest. The preferred alterative (Alternative B) involves commercial and small-tree thinning of forested stands, prescribed burning, piling and disposal of activity-generated slash, and construction of 9.8 miles of temporary roads. Description: On September 24, 2008, a final decision memo was signed to improve mule deer habitat and promote growth of large diameter ponderosa pine in the Fly Creek watershed. The project will treat about 300 acres through the understory thinning of ponderosa pine, the mowing of brush, and the reintroduction of prescribed fire.
