May 24th Action Alert! - SB 30 To House Rules Committee

Hello everyone,

As you probably know by now, the Senate passed Senate Bill 30 earlier this week by a 19-11 vote. I've included a complete breakdown at the end of this e-mail.

Earlier today we were informed that the bill was not referred to Rep. Roblan's Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources as expected, but to the House Committee on Elections, Ethics, and Rules - owing to a matter of timing.

If you've sent letters to Roblan's committee, don't worry, your letters have made a strong initial impression and the House has been alerted to the level of support for SB 30. But now that SB 30 is in the Rules Committee, we'll need to adjust our strategy a little bit. As we've said before, the House is going to be a tough nut to crack and we're going to need to flood it with letters.

Here's what to do:

1. Continue sending letters/e-mails to your own district's Representative, and cc House leadership.
2. Send letters/e-mails to all seven members of the Rules Committee and cc House leadership.

If you've tired of writing so many letters, or are short on time, I'd suggest updating old letters. New letters are best, but what's most important is that the House sees the same level of support that the Senate has seen–“ more even. So send what you can.

Your message should be simple: ask the representatives to support Senate Bill 30 and that they not allow it to be weakened by those who support the developers. Tell them what the Metolius means to you. Please send them pictures if you have them.

As always, blind copy us on your letters at info@centraloregonlandwatch.org so that we can post them at noresorts.blogspot.com along with the 225 letters posted thus far.

Also - very important - please forward this e-mail to your friends, family-members, and others who share your concern, and if you are a member of an environmental, land use, fishing, hunting, sustainable forestry, or otherwise outdoor-oriented group whose members you believe would like to see the Metolius and places like it protected from large-scale development, we urge you to contact them as well and ask for their support.
