On Friday, October 4th, we'll be continuing our journey along the river. Join Nathan Hovekamp, LandWatch's resident expert on the flora and fauna of the basin, on an unforgettable trip along one of Oregon's most stunning rivers.
Our final hike will begin at Lower Bridge Campground and take us downstream toward the Horn of the Metolius. This is an out-and-back walk that begins and ends at the campground. The total walking distance is about 5-6 miles.
The trail conditions are mostly level with occasional muddy spots, rocks and tree roots, and mixed sun and shade. This field trip will take 5-6 hours total, including round trip driving time from Bend.
Suggested equipment: comfortable hiking shoes, sack lunch, plenty of water, sun and bug sauce, binoculars, and field guides.
