Moving through Midtown

Open house tomorrow for Bend’s Midtown Crossings

Did you know? In Deschutes County, over 50% of daily car trips are less than 3 miles in length. How many of these trips could be made without a car, if good and safe networks for pedestrians and bicyclists were more readily available?

Many people in this community are ready to walk, bike, or roll around town. Bend has the chance to make big moves to be a more pedestrian-friendly city.

For years, we’ve known that the huge barriers to better connecting East and West Bend (and becoming a more bike and pedestrian-friendly city) are the crossings at Franklin Avenue, Greenwood Avenue, and Hawthorne Avenue.

We’ve seen the overwhelming need and widespread community support for improving these three routes, collectively known as the “Midtown Crossings."

Now, we are excited to see some movement on these transformative projects.

What changes do you want to see?

The City of Bend is gathering feedback on preliminary designs for pedestrian and bicycle improvements to Greenwood, Franklin, and Hawthorne Avenues. There are two ways to get involved.

Attend the in-person open house

The current undercrossing at Greenwood Avenue: City of Bend

Tomorrow, June 22, 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.

Open Space Event Studios (220 NE Lafayette Ave in Bend) will hold an in-person open house tomorrow evening. All are invited to come, ask questions, view the design options, and give feedback. This is a drop-by-anytime format with no formal presentation, so it's easy to stop by and get involved.

Attend the online open house

Open until July 3

If you’d prefer to participate virtually, the City of Bend has launched an online open house. View the designs and take the survey to add your perspective to Bend’s walkable and bikeable future.
