Say Yes to Junipers

Comment Deadline: March 11, 2026

The City’s tree code is designed to preserve and expand Bend’s urban forest as we grow.

One species, however, has been called into question: the western juniper.

While a few developers have asked the city to remove junipers from Bend’s protected tree list, we know these trees provide a host of important benefits, from shade to wildlife habitat to climate resilience.

Bend’s future growth and housing needs can—and must—be balanced with the preservation of a resilient, equitable urban forest, and preserving our juniper trees is key.

Use our draft comments as a starting point, and add in your own appreciation for juniper.
